Citizen Men's BN0000-04H Eco-Drive Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Watch Review

Citizen Men's BN0000-04H Eco-Drive Professional Diver Black Rubber Strap Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:

Citizen's BN0000-04H has something unique. It may not carry the weight of a TAG Heuer, Omega, Rolex, or other sport-dive watch (in cold hard $, "prestige", or actual literal heaviness for sure), but it really has charm.

With this watch you get the superior time-keeping qualities of a high-grade japanese quartz movement (quartz always runs on a battery - yes, there is a specially-engineered titanium-manganese battery in there) but without the need for any battery change, ever (at least 20 years by Citizen engineers' estimates). This movement blows automatics out of the water in time-keeping. It doesn't have the fluid sweep of an automatic's second hand (it ticks in 1-second intervals), but for me keeping time is what counts in a watch, right?

This is a set-it-and-forget-it watch. It will keep on trucking about 6-months in total darkness from a full charge. And if it does stop, it'll come out of it to full accurate time-keeping with just 15 minutes in the summer sunshine. It will run a whole 24 hour time-cycle with only 4 minutes of light exposure. Eco-Drive is the new deal in watch movement. [EDIT: Not to mention the battery inside is specially made non-toxic. It's a green machine.]

As to its pedigree, it's a real ISO-rated dive watch. There's an easy way to tell with Citizens: if there's an M after the depth rating on the face, it's ISO-rated. This isn't just my theory, this is from Citizen's own product info. This watch wants to see dive time.

The watch face, which some call cramped, feels to me like looking through a porthole in a submarine or something. It's a little deep. I can tell the time just fine. The hour dots are legible in all kinds of light situations. The lume is about as good as Seiko's lumibrite, which is to say, pretty darn good. But it's no Luminox to be sure. [EDIT: The lume, in my tests, lasts well over a 12 hour cycle in total darkness from just 15 seconds of direct charging with a flashlight. Don't think it's bright at all after those 12 hours, though. But it does have a really nice greenish glow when charged.]

The mineral-crystal is domed, but you can see the time even at a pretty sharp angle. I like the dome, goes with the porthole feel. The face also bears a really nicely done little pyramid-shaped grid pattern. That might be the solar cell, but either way, it's beautiful the way it picks up light.

With the hands, some say they're "phallic" but I think they look more like lit candles. Haven't seen hands like them anywhere, and I get bored with all the pointed-arrow and straight-line designs. And they're nice, fat and visible in the dark. Furthermore, everything's outlined in chrome. Has the look of quality engineering.

[EDIT: The second hand lines up almost perfect with the little markers on the beveled inside edge. It's perfect, spot-on precise 50-59 seconds out of a minute on mine, but it isn't perfect every single time. And it varies from minute to minute which 1-10 markers it misses (but it always nails 30-60 for some reason). You'd never notice, however, unless you put the watch right up to your face and stare at it like a crazy person like I did before writing this. That's a very small amount of play in the movement, and for this price, is impressive. You get the same movement in even the more expensive Eco-Drive divers, by the way (for example, the one with the bright blue face, and the famed "Eco-Zilla"). The minute and hour hands, however, are exact on this, every time.]

As to the date window, I like it small. Generally I know what day it is. I don't need that information taking up half of my watch face. But I even like the font used on it. Looks like it could be used on a Navy decompression table.

The bezel is 60-clicks, compared with Seiko's 120, so it feels a little rough. But I like having it at 60. It's more precise. I'm not going to need to time a half-minute of anything with the rotating bezel, ever. [EDIT: I make perfect pasta by using the bezel, by the way. Impresses the girlfriend. Thumbs up here. Also times parking meters. No more tickets for me. Furthermore, the bezel "breaks-in" after a little while and the spring doesn't feel so choppy.]

The band is really soft. It's not hard or stiff, like others say. It feels like high-grade dive rubber. But I have smaller wrists, it could press into some bigger guys'. The watch looks great on smaller wrists, by the way, due to it's smaller size. Doesn't make me look like a wuss. Big plus there. [EDIT: And due to the friction grid-pattern on the back of the band, it doesn't move around on the wrist at all. It's planted on there now.]

And did I mention the case IS ONE SOLID PIECE OF STAINLESS STEEL? I can't get over that. I haven't seen that on any watch in any price-range. [EDIT: The case is specially cast in a mold from molten steel, not machined.] Just cool. Citizen is so confident in their engineering, they make it that much harder to open. And for water to get in, remember, 300M = 1,000 ft.

Cons:

The screw-down crown. Don't get me wrong, it has a quality feel (doesn't wobble when pulled out) and does it's job. But I'm not going to lie, it's hard to get it screwed down and hard to get it unscrewed because of the steel lip that surrounds it. Seiko's design on the classic SKX007K, for example, is better. However, remember that quartz movement? You'll only need to unscrew that crown about 5 times a year, to set the date for the months without 31 days.

The bezel has printed numbers. These seem pretty durable, whatever they're made of, and I haven't scuffed them yet even after some direct hits. But how much harder would it have been to have the numbers pressed into the bezel?

The crystal is not recessed in the bezel much at all. It'll pick up dings/surface scratches. But hey, it's an affordable watch. It deserves some character. Do not get that crystal anywhere near a brilo-pad though, say, when washing dishes. You'll regret it. It ain't sapphire. [EDIT: And it ain't 2K so who's complaining?]

Summmary:

All in all, great watch with a lot of character. Keeps great time. Comfortable = Not one sharp edge on the thing. Not heavy = forget it's even there. No battery change! One piece of steel! Eco-Drive is fail-safe technology. This watch will give you at least 20 years of maintainence-free time-keeping. And look good doing it.

Casio Women's MSG161C-1V Baby-G G-MS Sweet Poison Watch Review

Casio Women's MSG161C-1V Baby-G G-MS Sweet Poison Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The watch is prettier in person than on the site. The stainless/black/pale pink color combo makes it feel modern and cool, while the hint of pink on the face makes it just feminine enough.I have to agree with the other reviews about the fact that the time can be difficult to see from certain angles. The numbers are silvery against a frosty pink background, so the effect is a bit like looking at a message written on your bathroom mirror after it gets all fogged up by your hot shower.Very cool, but just like a message on a mirror, it can be a bit hard to see unless your eyes are looking at it pretty much straight on.For me, the effect is worth having to tilt my wrist to the right angle, but not everyone will think so. The watch is also a good size for me (I'm on the tall side, and some women's watches are just too dainty, but men's are too clunky). This watch is replacing an old casio Baby-G Shock that I had for years and never gave me trouble. So I went with the same brand again.

Casio #AMW320R-7EV Men's Marine Gear Analog Digital Sports Diver Watch Review

Casio #AMW320R-7EV Men's Marine Gear Analog Digital Sports Diver Watch
Average Reviews:

I'm tough on watches and constantly break the wristband pins or face crystal. These Casio driving watches are some of the toughest watches I've owned, and have purchased 2-3 similar models over the last 15-20 years. They are very durable and can take a beating. I'm not a diver, but the water resistance is a big plus with working in the garden or washing the cars.

I'm not a big fan of the digital clock that added on this model because I like a classic looking diving watch, but I use the date function and I've grown to like it.

If you're looking for a good looking watch that's also very durable, this is the watch.

Casio Women's MSG300C-1B Baby-G G-MS Cool and Tough Ana-Digi Watch Review

Casio Women's MSG300C-1B Baby-G G-MS Cool and Tough Ana-Digi Watch
Average Reviews:

The watch is little larger than I expected, but it still looks really cute, and I got a small wrist. I love the color combinations.
It's a little heavier for people who are really sporty. I planned to hike with this watch, but after trying it on, I decide to go back to my slim Swatch.
It's really really really easy to adjust the watch band. I used a safety pin, as suggested by another review. NOTHING COMPLICATED.
It's also not that hard to adjust everything else. Just follow the instructions in the manual!

UPDATE:
After using this watch for three months, I found out something not so nice...you can't read the date (digital) when the hands are on top of it as well as the shadows. It's only a tiny drawback, but it can make you very frustrated!
But still, five star. Everything else is excellent.

Casio Men's WVA320J-1E Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch Review

Casio Men's WVA320J-1E Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
INTRODUCTION
As revealed by the title for this review, I am a big fan of Casio watches.Always have been, given their looks, utility, quality, and price. While there are the "lower-end" lines of Casio watches (read, cheap), this is certainly not one of them.In fact, in my opinion, this is overall the best Casio watch I have ever owned or seen.

OBVIOUS ADVANTAGES
(1) Low Maintenance:With Tough Solar and Waveceptor technologies combined, this is the most low maintenance watch you can own.Once you set it up, you're pretty much done for the life of the watch.Imagine never having to change a battery or correct the time of your watch again. Now repeat. What a great feeling.

(2) Tough Solar:A bit repetitive of my first point, but the prospect of never having to change a battery makes this watch - and other Casio Tough Solar watches - tough to beat. This is my third Tough Solar watch. My other two have never had battery issues, and I have had them for over three years.

(3)Waveceptor:Atomic timekeeping is an excellent feature, assuming you can get a good signal for your watch to synchronize.Unfortunately, living on the east coast, my signal is weak.

(4) Looks:Obviously, a very subjective category. To me, the "beauty" of this watch is its timeless and straightforward design - nothing too fancy or crazy, but with some subtle styling cues that make it far beyond the ordinary. In particular, Casio's use of red lettering for certain letters/numbers, as well as the second hand. You will find some variant of this design utilized by Casio and other watch manufacturers for the last 25+ years.

(5) Utility:Stop watch, multiple time zones you can change on the fly, dual alarms, and an LCD display that shows your choice of month/date, day/date, or digital time. What else do you need in a watch?

THE HIDDEN ADVANTAGES
(1) Mineral Display:Highly scratch-resistant, and not the cheap acrylic displays that can be found on cheaper Casio watches.Making it a bit more recessed - like Casio's G-Shock line - would prevent more scratches, but also may have detracted from its appearance.

(2) Watch Hands:If you examine the watch hands carefully, you'll note the styling cues and quality that makes this watch stand out.In particular, the red-tipped second hand. These are high-quality dials.

(3) Watch Buttons:The cheaper Casio watches have plastic buttons. For the middle-range Casio watches, they may have aluminum/metal buttons, but that's it.This model has the metal buttons that are recessed within another metal ring, and are softer to the touch when depressing.Definitely higher quality and lends a more expensive feel and appearance to the watch.

(4) Watch Band:While a resin band watch, not all resin bands are made alike.Having owned both higher-quality and lower-end Casio watches, there are definitely other resin bands that are thin, hard, and cheap-feeling, resulting in earlier cracks, tears, and discoloration. This watch definitely has one of the softer, thicker, and higher quality resin bands.

MY REQUEST TO CASIO
Size:My request to Casio that they continue slimming down their high-end Tough Solar and Waveceptor watches and perhaps make some on the dressy/business side. This watch is perfect for this particular "style" of watch. However, it is a larger watch, being roughly the size of a Rolex Submariner, but perhaps not as thick. For example, I would love to see a Casio WVQ550A-1A1V (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JX7JOI/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A3APZO11P5R2Q5) with both Tough Solar and Waveceptor technologies.Better yet, make that one G-Shock durable as well.

CONCLUSION
In short, this is the Tough Solar and Waveceptor-enabled Casio watch I have been waiting for.Up until now, this technology has largely been integrated into either Casio's G-Shock or Edifice lines, or into certain cheaper Casio models I am simply now too old (and successful) to buy.I own two G-Shocks (and love them also), but they are a bit sporty looking. The Edifice line is great, but they are also more expensive and generally use metal bands, while my preference is for resin-banded watches. This watch, subject to my single con above, completely fits my needs.

BUY THIS WATCH.YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.*

* Unless, of course, you simply do not like the design, have a disdain for incredibly useful multi-function watches, are a watch snob, or do not like watches that are a bit on the larger side.I would say that this watch is about the size (or slightly smaller) of a Rolex Submariner, but not as thick.

Product Description:
Based on the best-selling AMW320 case design, the Casio Men's Atomic Tough Solar Waveceptor Sports Watch #WVA320J-1E is more powerful and more accurate than ever thanks to Casio's Solar Power and Waveceptor Atomic Timekeeping technology. With its classic dive style design (which include features like a rotating bezel, resin band, and an LED display built into its bold, black dial), this handsome timepiece is ready for a day at the office or inspection by the ship's divemaster. The watch's reliable Japanese quartz movement is solar powered--which can accurately keep time up to six months without further exposure to light. Casio Men's G7700-1 G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch Review

Casio Men's G7700-1 G-Shock Trainer Multi-Function Shock Resistant Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this watch a week ago at an unbeatable price of $47 incl. tax and shipping (almost 50% off the RRP). What I wanted was a watch that was useful for athletic training (I'm an avid runner and swimmer). What I received was a superb well-rounded G-Shock that surpassed my expectations regarding the purpose of the watch, one that has several unique features that other G-Shocks presently do not feature:
*1/1000 stopwatch with split and 999 lap time functions--perfect for athletic training, getting splits etc. while running or swimming.
*Auto-start feature--a 5 second countdown prior to starting the stopwatch, with cool animated graphics.
*2 100-hour countdown timers, adjustable to the second--ideal for interval training on long runs.
*Customizable alarms for weekend and weekday--great for people like me who have to wake up at 7am on weekdays and noon on weekends without having to constantly switch on/off different alarms.
*Customizable hourly signal--set it so that it only beeps on the hour during any specified period (ie. 7am-11pm), so that it doesn't beep while sleeping.
*Flash alert--red and green LEDs go off in sync with the alarms and stopwatch auto-start systems. With the stopwatch auto-start, the LEDs are employed to create a cool motor races effect by having red lights going off in sync with the countdown and green lights going off at the start itself.

Other features of the watch:
*World time in 48 cities--48 cities is new for me, previous G-Shocks only had 27 or so, perfect for frequent travelers like me.
*EL backlight (blue-green) with auto-EL function.
*A very comfortable strap with good fit, and a thin case (by G-Shock standards) makes for one of the most easy-to-wear G-Shocks ever.
*Buttons are extremely easy to push. Some users have complained that the "G" button on the front of the watch, which activates the EL backlight, is hard to press; that wasn't the case for me.

Some cons:
*EL backlight duration (1 second)--too short for me, especially on a display with so much information, presumably to increase battery life. 2 or 3 seconds would be ideal.
*Non-solar powered--given all the power-hungry features of this watch, solar power would be ideal, so as not to worry about running down the batteries with all the alarms, lights and all.

However, these are minor issues. I'm sure this watch would suit anyone out there--by far one of the most feature-packed yet comfortable-to-wear and stylish G-Shocks out there, perfect for any occasion.

Casio Men's MDV102-1AV Sea Analog Illuminator Dual LED Dive Watch Review

Casio Men's MDV102-1AV Sea Analog Illuminator Dual LED Dive Watch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great looking sports watch, and the light is really bright - it's a white LED both at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock, so it allows for nice visibility in low light. The stainless steel case is nicely polished and looks very sharp. This watch really looks more expensive than it is, and I've had people ask about it when wearing it.It's an eye catching watch.

The MDV102-1AV is 200m water resistant, which means it can handle you going swimming, snorkeling, even some diving without much problem. This watch has a screw-down crown too, which makes it even more water resistant. The only thing to watch out for is washing the dishes, hot tubbing, or showering with it - warm/hot water isn't great for watertight seals on watches.I've heard it can weaken the seals and cause a leak.

The little marlin on the watch is a great touch, and the face is very easy to read. The white markers contrast really well with the black dial, and even have a mirror-like edge to them, which makes the markers stand out even more. The offset date at 4 o'clock makes it look interesting, too.

My only disappointment was the band - it's a hard rubbery band and not very comfortable. That's why I took off one star from my rating.Aside from the band this watch really rocks! To solve that, I bought a Timex Expedition Adjustable 16-20mm watch strap TX977761L, Timex watchband, Fast - Wrap Expedition, 16-20mm, Black, Adjustable, Long. It's for a Timex Expedition, so it says Timex on it, but it's a great velcro strap that's really easy to adjust and install on the Casio.

If you decide you want to change straps like me, just pop out the strap that comes with the Casio, pull out and save the little springs, then attach the Casio (using it's springs) to the Timex strap.Took 3 minutes and I love the adjustable Timex strap, it's very comfortable and dries out easily when it's gotten wet.

I definitely recommend this watch. It's well worth the money for the water resistance, and looks really nice!
